Lifepath Counselling and Psychological Services consists of three therapists who possess a wide range of skill and expertise.
Deena Nessman-Psychologist (M.Ed., R.Psych.):
Deena provides individual counselling for adolescents and adults, experiencing issues related to life adjustment stressors, such as depression, anxiety, substance abuse, self-esteem, chronic pain and relationship problems. These common challenges prove to be very responsive to treatment. A brief course of consultation provides better quality of life for those motivated to address these issues.
Deena conducts psycho-educational assessments, applies principles of clinical psychology and educational psychology to the diagnosis and treatment of students' behavioral and learning problems. Areas of interest also include working with clients who display challenging behaviours, especially those exhibiting severe acting out behaviour. She is highly successful in engaging these individuals, who are often resistant to treatment. Deena applies principles of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, combined with other treatment modalities when applicable. She is certified in clinical hypnosis and is a member in good standing with the College of Alberta Psychologists.
In addition to her private practice, Deena is currently employed with the Calgary Health Region’s Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services. Prior to returning to the CHR, she worked for three years with adult clients at Correctional Services of Canada. While at that position, counselling sessions commonly addressed problems related to substance abuse, depression, anxiety, anger management and chronic pain issues.
Maureen Speidel-Psychologist (M.A., R.Psych.):
Maureen focuses much of her work with individuals and couples struggling with relational concerns, depression, anxiety, self esteem, grief and loss, and life adjustment. She specializes in marital and relationship counselling using a combination of Relational Empowerment, Cognitive Behavioural, Transactional Analytic and Solution Focused philosophies. Her direct and supportive approach to identified issues assists individuals and couples in identifying issues, addressing concerns and achieving their personal goals.
Maureen is also a skilled presenter on a variety of topics ranging from depression and suicide to life balance and self esteem. As a trained facilitator in Suicide Intervention she coordinates information sessions or full two day workshops on this topic. She was one of a team of three provincial facilitators that worked with schools and communities to prepare for and prevent threats of violence to self and others. She is able to custom design a variety of presentations to meet the needs of specific groups. She is also trained as a Critical Incident Debriefer working with those who have witnessed traumatic incidents.
In addition to her private practice, Maureen is employed with the Calgary Health Region’s Rural Mental Health portfolio. Maureen has spent nine years in the Strathmore area working both as a therapist providing direct services to individuals and as a community developer increasing awareness of mental health issues and developing programs to increase support for those living with mental illnesses.
